Creation of a SPECT and PET database for evaluation purposes

Summary Many research groups are developping quantification methods, such that scatter and attenuation correction, collimator response correction, and tomographic reconstruction methods. The value of the method developped in a specific lab is usually assessed by the very same lab, using its own data, which makes it difficult to draw any conclusion regarding the relative performance of methods developped in different labs. Using some standard datasets for evaluation purpose would therefore be very helpful for multi-center evaluation.
We have therefore started, together with the Neurosciences and Bioimaging Institute in Milan, to create a database of SPECT and PET simulated data, the realism of which have been tested by comparing the simulated data with experimental data. We are currently trying to add more "cases" to this database and to prepare a Web interface that will make it possible for different teams to download the data for ecaluation purpose.
